Sound Forge Audio Studio is released on August 8, with Sound Forge Pro 12 scheduled to land at the end of 2017. Neither has been formally announced yet, but the former adds compatibility for the VST3 plug-in format, while Sound Forge Pro 12 promises to “raise the bar for audio editing and mastering”.
The company also announced plans to update its Sound Forge Audio Studio and Sound Forge Pro software for PC. MAGIX yesterday (May 16) announced the release of a brand new Mac version: Sound Forge Pro Mac 3. New features include loudness metering and two iZotope plug-ins, RX Elements and Ozone 7 Elements.
While Sound Forge is only an audio editor for tasks such as audio restoration, mastering and sound design, it has a dedicated following, especially on Mac where such programs are a rarity. Sound Forge was developed by Sonic Foundry and sold to Sony in 2003, but the Japanese giant sold the program along with most of its creative suite to MAGIX last year.
